City Unity

The Unity Building was built in 1913 on the Paper Hill of Montreal at the corner of St-Alexandre and De La Gauchetière. Built at the peak of the printing industry's boom, Unity reflects the era's innovative style of construction that made wise use of natural light; - the "daylight factory".

Late in the 20th Century, Unity was declared an historic landmark to ensure the building's preservation in Montreal's architecture. With the rebirth of urban living, this historic landmark has been transformed into an upscale, urban residential space with large windows which provide great views and daylight.

The Village

One of the largest gay villages in North America, the Montreal Gay Village testifies to the open-minded and cosmopolitan nature of our beloved city. A nightlife hub of opportunities with restaurants, terraces and some of Montreal's best nightclubs lining the district's main artery, Ste. Catherine Street, it's also a neighborhood with affordable apartments, excellent public transit access and a central location. By foot, it takes ten minutes or less to get to Place-des-Arts, the Plateau, the Latin Quarter and the downtown core.

Situated east of the Latin Quarter, west of Hochelaga-Maisonneuve and south of the trendy Plateau neighborhood, the Montreal Gay Village is one of the city's younger districts, administered by the city borough.  Having built itself up since the mid-80s, Montreal's Gay Village, commonly referred to as "Le Village," spreads over roughly two kilometers (1.24 miles) of the easternmost part of downtown.

As for language, one can get by with English, as most of downtown districts are comfortably bilingual (with the exception of the Latin Quarter), but beyond a short-term stay, learning french would be great!
